Communities and Local Government

Communities and Local Government (was the ODPM)  is the source of much of the development policy for the south east of England. This includes housing, transport and waste management. These policies are issued as PPS Planning Policy Statements and are available on this site.

South East England Regional Assembly

Responsible to the ODPM for monitoring and reviewing the Regional Planning Guidance (RPG) and preparation of the South East Plan, covering the next 20 years. The Regional Assembly is located in Cross Lanes and has 112 members including one representative from SCC and one from GBC.

SEEDA South East England Development Agency

The South East England Development Agency incorporates the PPS and other government directives, such as the number of new homes required, into the South East Plan. SEEDA is also located in Cross Lanes. The plan is available from

SCC Surrey County Council

Surrey county council are responsible for the Surrey Structure Plan. This is the strategic framework, within which, Guildford Borough Council must work. SCC are directly responsible for Highways. The Structure Plan and a very useful Interactive Map are available at

GBC Guildford Borough Council

Guildford Borough Council are our local authority. The publish the Local Development Plan ( to be called the Local Development Framework from 2007) and local Special Planning Guidelines SPGs, of which the most interesting are the Residential Design Guide and Phone Masts.
